The Institute for Health, Social, and Community Research at Shaw University's 2nd
Conference on Minority Health,
was held on
Friday, September 26, 2008 at the
Sheraton Raleigh Hotel.
This conference built on the success of IHSCR’s
inaugural conference which focused on developing infrastructure for successful
minority health research. In the past 6 years, IHSCR’s creative research infrastructure at Shaw
University has enabled it to launch an aggressive research agenda in several
areas of health disparities. The conference features a dynamic showcase of the
health disparities research conducted at the Institute, and a forum for
exploring partnerships and collaborations for addressing health disparities.
Keynote Speakers:
The conference included keynote addresses by two renowned authors.
Conference Objectives:
- To increase knowledge and awareness of health disparities
- To showcase minority health research conducted at the IHSCR
- To provide a forum to explore partnerships and collaborations between
IHSCR, public health policy makers and practitioners for addressing health
disparities
- To introduce underrepresented students to the challenges and
opportunities of careers in health disparities research
The conference provided exciting opportunities for peer
investigators, health educators, public health professionals (state,
county, and local), community health advocates, HBCU students (graduate and
undergraduate), minority students at non-HBCUs, and representatives from other
research centers to interact.
