Staff - Leonard Williams, B.A.

 

 

Mr. Leonard Williams has over 15 years of human service experience covering Child Welfare, Child-Adolescent Mental Health, Juvenile Justice and Community-Based program development, for private, nonprofit organizations in Cincinnati, Ohio and Raleigh- Durham, North Carolina. He has developed and implemented quality Child-Adolescent Mental Health Day Treatment programs in Johnston County, Wilson County and Cabarrus County school systems that reduced out of home placements, and assisted students in returning to the main stream classroom.
 

Mr. Williams is the Associate Director/Project Manager for the largest health disparities research grant at the Institute for Health, Social, and Community Research (IHSCR) at Shaw University. The approximately $6,828,832.00 NIH NCMHD-funded Project EXPORT II Center of Excellence is an inter-university partnership between Shaw University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Carolina Shaw Partnership for the Elimination of Health Disparities Research projects addresses priority conditions such as serious mental illness, cardiovascular disease, and HIV.

 

Mr. Williams has earned his Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Sociology at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio and is an Ordain Minister in the state of North Carolina.
Mr. Williams created two community base programs called Operation F.L.I.P and “The Shepard’s Initiative”. Operation F.L.I.P (Future Leaders In Progress) served as a gang prevention tool for elementary, middle and high school youth. “The Shepard’s Initiative” encouraged local pastors and in Church Clergymen of Johnston County to meet monthly to discuss the needs of their communities and church congregations. This initiative encouraged local churches to develop and plan strategies for prevention and awareness dealing with socioeconomic issues and assisting them to access services from, state agencies, local health department and agencies in North Carolina

Mr. Williams’ research interests include health disparities and public health interventions through faith-based organizations.
