The goal of the Shaw University and Duke University project is to: (1) carry out
an educational intervention, with the participation of Healthcare Navigators,
aimed at improving patient satisfaction and reducing adverse outcomes among
pregnant Medicaid recipients at DUMC; (2) survey patients regarding their
experiences of pregnancy care; and (3) study factors related to near misses.
Mitigating the effects of patient factors, understanding the care received by
patients, and identifying factors related to near misses could help reduce
racial disparities in adverse maternal and infant outcomes for pregnant African
American Medicaid recipients.
