Three major research projects: 1) "Exploring Health Disparities in Integrated Communities (EHDIC)" is a community-based epidemiologic study of racial
disparities across several chronic conditions (cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, and depression) within racially integrated communities without
race differences in socioeconomic status in Prince Georges County, Maryland and Edgecombe County, North Carolina. 2) "Residential Segregation and Healthcare
Disparities," will examine the degree to which race and ethnic disparities in health services utilization can be attributed to race differences in access to
healthcare providers resulting from residential segregation, and 3) "Inflammation and Platelet Activation in Cardiovascular Health Disparities," will test
whether race differences in socio-environmental exposures lead to a pro-inflammatory predisposition which lead to increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
